User groups as a workspace member

User groups represent teams inside a workspace and can affect visibility, mentions, channel membership, and group-linked channels.

What groups do

User groups are different from group conversations. They represent addressable teams, can be nested, can be mentioned by slug, and can optionally mirror membership to a linked channel.

Visibility

Groups can be public, private, or hidden. What you can see depends on your membership and permissions. Mobile users can view groups, while group administration is desktop-only at launch.

Permissions

Creating groups, managing members, managing subgroups, managing linked channel settings, and viewing hidden groups may require permissions granted by an admin. If you do not see a group action, your role may not include that permission.
